kelsey + nick - west marin magic
When Kelsey and Nick started planning their wedding, they knew they wanted two things; to have a large group of friends and family with them on the big day, and to celebrate in pure West Marin style. They had a lot of ideas when they first reached out to 38north Design Co., but they weren't sure how to pull it all together. They had booked the historic Old Saint Mary's Church in Nicasio Valley and a family friend had graciously offered to host the reception at their ranch in Woodacre, but everything else was a little up in the air!
Luckily, we specialize in Marin County-focused weddings and were able to guide the couple to a beautiful day that was also well-organized and best of all, checked everything off their wishlist. We worked closely with the couple to prioritize and select vendors that would help keep the close to 200 guest wedding in budget. We collaborated to figure out logistics on how to transform an open field into a show-stopping wedding venue and find a caterer willing to take the client-raised/grown protein and locally grown produce to be served at the wedding.
The couple had the goal of using organic elements and being as sustainable as possible, which is not always budget-friendly. Nick is a farmer with Star Route Farms - the oldest continuously certified organic row crop farm in California, so we were able to procure a large portion of the produce from crops Nick had a hand in growing. They also grew all of the flowers in their yard and in another friend's yard. The grooms sister then arranged and styled all of the flowers and centerpieces.
During the week leading up to the wedding, friends and family all pitched in to make their wedding dreams come to life. A stunning stage arbor was erected by the bride's brother, the land owners had to corral the usually free-roaming cattle where the festivities were going to take place and the bridal party rallied to hang lights, hand letter names on mason jars, and make unique decor elements from found items in nature and dried flowers. A real team effort.
"With being local residents on a ranch in West Marin, we couldn’t think of a more perfect landscape to celebrate our love. We really wanted our wedding to have great food, good music and showcase the beauty of Marin. We'd met Stacey when she coordinated my brother's wedding last year and knew she'd have answers to things like 'where do we get the dance floor, tables and chair and how do we get nice bathrooms out in a field with no power and water?' but she also helped us figure out a budget that would work, designed cool invitations and kept things running smoothly on the day of the event."
